BASIC ANTI-VIRUS/ANTI-MALWARE SOFTWARE
For each computer that you own, install one and only one anti-virus/anti-malware
program that has "real-time protection". "Real-time
protection" is also known as "background scanning".
Install one but only one of the following five free anti-virus
software applications:
1. Microsoft
Security Essentials
at
http://www.microsoft.com/security/pc-security/mse.aspx
3. Avira
AntiVir Personal - Free Antivirus
http://www.avira.com/en/avira-free-antivirus
4. AVG Anti-Virus
Free Edition
5. "FortiClient
Endpoint Security Free Edition" is the only free antivirus/antimalware
software application with memory resident background scanning that has an
"End User License Agreement" (EULA) which permits unlimited use by
businesses, institutions, and non-profit organizations. "FortiClient Endpoint
Security Free Edition" is especially useful for budget-challenged schools,
and non-profit organizations with slow Internet connections, since
virus/malware definitions can be manually installed. Our how-to instructions
for installing and using "FortiClient" are available at
http://aztcs.org/meeting_notes/winhardsig/forticlient/forticlient.htm
******************************************************************************************
Prior to installing one of the above four items, make sure that
you have removed any anti-virus/anti-malware software that is already installed
into your computer.
ADDITIONAL
You can install any or all of the following free products to
increase the security of your computer:
******************************************************************************************
Malwarebytes Antimalware :
http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
(Select the Free Version.)
******************************************************************************************
CCleaner:

(Select the slim version.)
******************************************************************************************
Winpatrol:
http://www.winpatrol.com/download.html
(Select the Free Version.)
******************************************************************************************
The above three items do not conflict with each other or with any
anti-virus/anti-malware software applications because these three items do not have
"real-time protection".
